The question that comes up oh so often is the ever challenging task of deciding whether or not you and your partner wish to do a first look! I have heard it all, from both sides! Let’s break things down a bit so maybe this task is a little less daunting for you both. I totally understand that loved ones’ opinions, timelines, and even location can come into play here. No stress with whatever you land on, either way you are in love and celebrating the two of you all day long!
Let’s break it down now, shall we? Many people are used to the traditional way of a groom (or bride!) seeing their partner walk down the aisle for the first time, in front of all their friends and family. Meaning they have not yet spent any time together, and have yet to take portraits, family photos, enjoy cocktail hour, greet guests, eat, dance, toast, the list goes on! While seeing your partner walk down the aisle is an absolutely beautiful experience, you can get a very intimate and similar feeling doing it just the two of you. Trust me, you will still feel all the feels walking down the aisle either way, and your guests will still see the awe in one another’s eyes, just this time maybe with a few less nerves! First looks allow you to read longer vows, and you may even feel more comfortable pouring your heart out more given the intimacy of it. They allow you to do bride and groom portraits before the ceremony, and get as many as you want! Getting rid of some wedding jitters with just your spouse and photo team nearby has also been noted as positive feedback from many nervous couples.
While there are so many things to consider when coming up with your wedding timeline, all that truly matters is that you are staying true to yourself and your own wishes! First looks open up so much time in the day, and allow for many different photo opportunities along the way, and for many first look location opportunities! And not to mention the ever cherished alone time with your spouse, before seeing all of your guests! Your wedding day will be magical no matter what route you go. Take time to ask your photographer, previously married friends, and even loved ones when coming to your decision. And above all else, have fun! You’re getting married!
